Grant is provided under the Support to Tertiary Education Project (STEP) to the South African Student Internship Foundation (SASIF) to allow black university graduates to gain relevant work experience interning at South African business and educational institutions.

Abstract
Internship recipients will be selected from among recent graduates who participated in one of the following USAID-funded bursary programs: Educational Opportunities Council, South African Institute of Race Relations, or Catholic Education Aid Programs. Approximately 100 interns will be placed in 6-month internships over a period of two years. A monitoring and evaluation system will be established to track the progress of the interns and provide a database of information on the use of internships as an educational tool and human resource development strategy for South Africa.
