AID grant no. 674-0301-G-SS-2067-00 to the South African Legal Defence Fund (SALDEF) to support its program of providing legal assistance to disadvantaged communities and community support groups under the community outreach and leadership development [COLD] project

SALDEF"s activities will include: advising on appropriate structures for community development trusts; advising on forms of representation in the trust to assure a high degree of community control; advising on 10-year options such as land trusts and housing cooperatives; analyzing new land laws which create the possibility for new governance structures and expanded political participation; drafting agreements, community trust deeds, and other legal documents and assisting disadvantaged communities with negotiations; and helping communities to make submissions to the Advisory Commission on Land appointed by President de Klerk. Legal assistance related to human rights abuses will not be included in this agreement.
