Sign inUSAID. MISSION TO INDONESIA
Grant is provided under the PVO Co-financing II Project in Indonesia to Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (WALHI) to support a program to strengthen consumer groups in five major cities -- Medan, Ujung Pandang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung.
1987

Abstract
Working with a subgrantee, Yayasan Lembaga Konsumen (YLK), WALHI will conduct consumer protection needs assessments in each city, followed by 2-day workshops on popular education on consumer rights and responsibilities; the workshops are expected to draw 50 participants per city. The momentum generated by the workshops will be tapped to recruit community motivators and to develop linkages with the local media. The motivators, 15 from each city, will participate in an 8-day course on consumer education. Grant funds will also be used to develop a manual in nonformal training which the motivators will be able to use in developing consumer awareness programs. Local action programs, such as product testing, consumer complaint actions, news releases, and other types of advocacy, are expected to increase and improve as a result of the grant. WALHI and YLK together will contribute 25% of project costs.
