Grant is provided under the PVO Co-financing Project in Indonesia to Yayasan Dian Desa (YDD) to implement a two-part "Rainwater Catchment and Post-Water Development Activities" project.
1986

Abstract
The rainwater catchment component will benefit some 1,100 families in Nusa Tenggara Timur Province. YDD will (1) construct 800 ferrocement/bamboo cement rainwater catchment tanks in 26 villages in the Kabupaten of Flores Timur, and (2) develop a system to prioritize the allocation of YDD"s rainwater catchment support to needy locations. The post-water development component will be implemented in two villages (Kepuharjo and Wonolelo) in Central Java, where YDD has previously conducted water projects. Focus will be on growing high-value produce apples, mushrooms, asparagus, and orchids. YDD will organize farmers into self-help groups which will function as mini credit unions and collective marketing channels; develop a demonstration plot in each village; train farmers; and loan them an initial production packet -- seeds, fertilizer, and pesticides -- to be repaid in kind.
