Grant is provided under the PVO Co-financing II Project in Indonesia to Yayasan Indonesia Sejahtera (YIS) to implement a biogas utilization systems project to provide a reliable and environmentally salutary source of energy in selected villages in the highlands of North Tapanuli, North Sumatra.

Abstract
YIS and its subgrantee, Lembaga Studi Pengembangam Wilayah, will install 23 biogas units in 13 villages, with priority given to low-income areas where firewood is scarce and efforts in environmental and forest protection are being made. Each unit will require a well, a gas oven, tubing and valves, building materials, and at least five weaned pigs or one cow or buffalo to provide the waste material. YIS/LSPW will contribute 30% of project costs.
