Grant is provided under the Health/Jobs for Displaced Families project (5190281) to Creative Associates International (CAI) to help an estimated 1,000 Salvadoran war-displaced families (especially those living in refugee camps) to permanently relocate or return to their place of origin, and to become economically self-supporting.

Abstract
In cooperation with several local and national government agencies and PVO"s, CAI will: (1) locate suitable resettlement sites, expedite the process of land acquisition, and assist families in obtaining housing credit; (2) furnish materials and TA to construct or rehabilitate permanent shelters; (3) provide education and TA in sanitation (e.g., latrine construction, waste disposal, sewage and vector control, and potable water); (4) supply agriculture starter packages and TA for families to begin crop production, and where appropriate, small animal husbandry projects and home/communal gardens; (5) provide vocational skills training for those not participating in the agricultural component; (6) provide persons with a strong potential for business success with small business management training and help them obtain credit; (7) establish or rebuild basic community infrastructure (e.g., potable water, electricity, sewage systems, rural roads, schools, and health facilities); (8) furnish limited general medical consultation and preventive health care (especially maternal/child health care); (9) train community volunteers in health, sanitation, and agriculture promotion; and, as needed, (10) distribute food aid.
