Grant to Save The Children Federation (SCF) to establish a nationwide documentation, tracing, and reunification program for displaced and unaccompanied children in Mozambique.
1990

Abstract
SCF will continue tracing and reunification efforts already initiated in eight of Mozambique"s provinces and begin similar programs in the two remaining northern provinces of Niassa and Cabo Delgado. SCF will also respond to increasing requests for assistance from Mozambican NGO"s working with war-affected children. SCF"S programs involve visits by fieldworkers to refugee camps, villages, and barrios to identify, interview, and photograph unaccompanied children. Photographs are then grouped together and printed on posters, which are circulated and then displayed in the children"s home villages. Once children are identified, a family member signs an agreement to properly care for the child. Reunifications only occur with full consent of all parties. During the first six months, follow-up visits are provided to identify possible problems. Due to the large number of Mozambican refugees in Malawi, the project will also help to reunite children and family members currently in Malawi with family members back home in Mozambique. Actual reunifications will be dependent on discussion and agreements between the governments of Mozambique and Malawi. Food distribution officers at refugee camps will assist in documenting unaccompanied children.
