Grant is provided to the Centro Amazonico de Antropologia y Aplicacion Practica (CAAAP) to conduct an empirical study of the social, economic, cultural, political, and environmental situation of indigenous communities in the Amazon.

Abstract
The study, which will be conducted from a human rights perspective, will promote indigenous communities" participation as Peruvian citizens and it will inform Peruvian society about their present situation. CAAAP will conduct the study in conjunction with the Asociacion Peruana de Estudios e Investigacion para la Paz (APEP). CAAAP will conduct the study (to be based on personal interviews, group meetings, and personal observations) in the four regions of the Amazon (Ashaninka, Aguaruna, Shipibo, and Yagua) that are representative of other indigenous communities and will produce a report presenting the findings and recommending legislation aimed at promoting the integral development of indigenous communities. Pressure groups will be contacted to promote the legislative proposal, which will be presented in Lima, Iquitos, and Tarapoto.
