Abstract
(CS) to continue its program of support for small, culturally sensitive human rights and grassroots projects initiated by indigenous Indian organizations and communities in Latin America and the Caribbean. The grant will support projects which promote the development of local economies and societies, technology and information transfer to and between Indian communities, and development of democratic, politically independent Indian organizations. Field projects and research will focus on two crucial areas: colonization of previously isolated Indian environments, and rational forest management. CS will: (1) assist donors and national governments in the design and evaluation of large projects that affect the program"s target groups; (2) complete evaluations of 12 ongoing CS field projects; (3) implement 24 new field projects; (4) conduct research and evaluation in the areas of colonization and deforestation; and (5) conduct assorted activities such as workshops, research dissemination, and development of linkages among host countries, indigenous organizations, and donors.
