Abstract
for a program to analyze and recommend solutions for conditions that adversely affect the human rights, especially the civil and political rights, of indigenous peoples or small ethnic societies in Latin America and the Caribbean. Cultural Survival will utilize its existing network of anthropologists and other specialists, development planners, local officials, and native people, to (1) provide information on regional and local political, social, economic, and environmental conditions affecting indigenous people; and (2) identify problems, determine their causes, formulate or evaluate proposed solutions, and recommend strategies to avert or at least minimize the negative effects that economic and social development often have on indigenous peoples. More specifically, Cultural Survival will (1) publish a variety of studies and other information, such as reports of immediate threats to the human rights of ethnic minorities, or descriptions of activities of groups that Cultural Survival has assisted; and (2) respond to a small number of requests for technical or financial assistance (e.g., to fund travel of a technical advisor or provide TA to local land titling or legal aid initiatives).
