Abstract
Building on an existing child survival activity funded by A.I.D./W, the Salvation Army/Kenya (SA/K) will use its Home Leagues (women"s groups) as a mechanism for providing health education and referrals. SA/K will train (and retrain) Home League members and leaders, using a two-tiered curriculum; produce four units of Swahili-language health education materials; and provide health education and monitoring through both regular home visits and health sessions. Project targets include, inter alia: 13,000 home visits; 20,000 women attending health education sessions; distribution of 1,200 oral rehydration spoons and of 10,000 condoms; and referrals for nutrition counseling (4,000 children), immunizations (4,000 children), and tetanus toxoid (2,500 pregnant women).
