Abstract
The research program aims to develop effective chemotherapy for East African sleeping sickness using novel drug combinations incorporating the recently introduced antipolyamine agent difluoromethylornithine (DFMO), and to examine the biochemical basis for drug synergism between DFMO and known trypanocides such as nifurtimox and/or melarsoprol. Research will be conducted at KETRI by U.S. and Kenyan scientists, as well as at the laboratories of U.S. investigators.
