Grant is provided under the Innovative Scientific Research II project (9365600) to the Tea Research Foundation of Kenya to investigate biological methods of controlling Armillaria root rot fungus in tea plants.

Abstract
Some of the key elements of the research program are: (1) to determine the speciation and clonal variation (a key factor in determining the fungus" virulence and pathogenicity) present in the Kenyan Armillaria population; (2) to investigate the potential of enhancing various indigenous soil antagonists to Armillaria, such as Trichoderma; and (3) to conduct long-term field tests of treatment methods.
