Grant is provided to the Television Trust for the Environment (TVE) to deliver a multimedia education and training package in support of Botswana"s National Conservation Strategy (NCS), while strengthening indigenous capacity to produce environmental video programs.
1993

Abstract
The educational materials prepared under the project will be designed primarily for secondary schools. Working with the Ministry of Education (MOE), TVE will produce a series of five, 15-20 minute videos on major NCS themes -- water resources, rangeland management, sustainable utilization of veld products, wood resources, and urban pollution and migration -- along with accompanying notes for teachers. Through on-the-job training and workshops, MOE and teaching staff will be introduced to video commissioning, production, and classroom use. The project will also offer a two-week course for teacher trainers on use of the video package. The videos will also be made available to NGOs, such as the Kalahari Conservation Society, as well as government extension and education departments for use in their nonformal education projects. In addition, the project will produce one 15-30 minute video specially for these organizations, along with an accompanying information leaflet on the NCS. Through TVE"s Moving Pictures distribution service, the six videos will be disseminated internationally, particularly in Anglophone southern and eastern Africa. Lastly, corresponding radio materials, derived from the video package, will be produced; these will include a 2-minute public service announcement, a series of 15-minute radio pieces, and programs relevant to primary school curricula.
