Abstract
Various mechanisms will be used to establish formal linkages between OSU and UNISWA: faculty visitations, applied research on agricultural development constraints, seminars and workshops, visiting lectures, and short-term faculty training. The linkages will benefit both institutions, though somewhat differently. They will help UNISWA faculty improve their understanding of the priority constraints to agricultural development in Swaziland, their teaching methods, and their ability to prepare students for private sector employment. Attainment of these objectives will be reflected in upgraded syllabi and participatory applied research with students. On the other side, the linkages will expand OSU"s knowledge base on southern Africa as a means of internationalizing its teaching, research, and public service programs. Six areas expected to receive the greatest attention at the start of the program are: agricultural economics/management, agricultural education and extension, crop science and plant pathology, home economics, soil and water conservation and management, and soil science.
