Grant to the Save the Children Federation (SCF) to continue a program to reunite children who were left unaccompanied or parentless in relief camps during the drought disaster in Ethiopia, and who are currently being sheltered at the Ethiopian Relief and Reconstruction Commission"s children"s shelter in Gondar, with their families.
1988

Abstract
Of the 305 children initially at the shelter, 28 have been reunited with their families through previous efforts. This leaves 277 children to be reunited or placed in a permanent living situation. Efforts will concentrate on reuniting children from shelters in the south of the country with relatives in Northern Shewa and Welo, where SCF already has established operational capabilities. A team of a social worker and an assistant, with a vehicle, will be assigned each to Gondar, Gambela, and Kembata Hayda. This grant finances phase one of the continued program; a second phase will entail the establishment of permanent care -- shelter, schooling, and nurturing -- for children who cannot be reunited.
