AID grant no. 674-0301-G-SS-3013-00 to the African Center for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) to provide support to the South Africa community outreach and leadership development (COLD) project

ACCORD, headquartered at the University of Durban-Westville, was established in 1992 to build the capacity of community organizations to use constructive methods to resolve racial and crosscultural disputes in such areas as local governance, rural development, community relations, and institutional development. ACCORD"s activities include: providing dispute resolution training to civic groups and community representatives; establishing fora for negotiation and conflict management; raising public awareness of dispute resolution as a process; and conducting research on dispute resolution. ACCORD seeks to establish regional centers at the black universities of the North (Turfloop), Fort Hare, Transkei, and the Western Cape, to conduct research and training into dispute management and resolution. The present grant, which follows upon support provided under the Transition to Democracy project (6740310), will support operation of ACCORD"s national office and the establishment of the first regional center, in the Western Cape.
