Abstract
Specifically, some 7,500 farmers in 50 communities in the departments of Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Puno, Arequipa, and Cajamarca, will be provided (1) seeds (potato, corn, barley, and broad beans), fertilizers, and handtools; (2) help in establishing a revolving fund to ensure that a portion of the crops produced can be rolled over for use as seed in the next season or kept in reserve; and (3) TA and training in the proper use of agricultural inputs, and in natural crop disease control, general farming skills, and community organization. In addition, a well will be drilled in each community and will be equipped with hand pumps to provide water for domestic use and for community and individual gardens. A drill rig will be procured for this purpose, and will subsequently be used in ADRA"s regular P.L. 480 community development projects. Finally, ADRA will use P.L. 480 Food for Work resources to stimulate participation in the project and provide a nutritional complement.
