AID grant no. AID-521-G-133 to Catholic Relief Services for the second phase of the Gros Morne rural development project

Caritas/Gonaives, CRS"s Haitian counterpart, will implement the project. Activities will include: (1) providing literacy training to the more advanced groupements and encouraging them to form cooperatives; (2) providing management training to 100 groupement cooperative leaders; (3) transferring improved agricultural technologies (e.g., pre- and post-harvest crop protection, soil conservation, fertilizers) to participants; (4) establishing local service councils (with members from several groupements) to provide social services such as preventive health care, education, road maintenance, and irrigation; (5) disseminating technical information to at least 400 groupements; (6) providing credit to groupements and individual members (including credit for reforestation and charcoal production projects); (7) encouraging the more advanced groupements to establish educational services for members" children; and (8) providing TA to groupements in sanitation and preventive health care.
