AID grant no. AID/AFR-G-1525 to AFRICARE, Inc. to maintain and strengthen its efforts in rural development in Africa, especially in the countries of the Sahel

Africare will operate an information center, maintain a consultant roster, and conduct workshops and provide TA to promote rural development projects. Africare will continue to operate its Africare Resource Information Center, which collects reports, studies, and research data pertaining to rural development in the Sahel and other parts of Africa, and makes this information available to U.S. organizations (especially black organizations) and to Sahelian and other African countries, which may not otherwise be aware of the development projects in neighboring countries. Africare will expand its Personnel Data Bank to include a more comprehensive list of Africans who are available for short- or long-term TA assignments. Thirdly, Africare will continue to hold project development workshops to (1) inform potential donors of development projects (of Africare and other organizations) that need funding; (2) assist other organizations, (especially black U.S. organizations and small organizations) that desire to become involved in the development process; (3) provide staff to assist A.I.D. and other organizations in project design and evaluation; and (4) assist in developing pilot projects. Lastly, Africare will continue to support integrated rural development efforts via (1) workshops to assist three predominantly black U.S. universities (Prairie View A&M, North Carolina A&T, and Alabama A&M) to undertake integrated rural development projects in Africa, and (2) continued direct assistance (through workshops and meetings) to African Governments and officials (including those of Mali, Niger, and Upper Volta) to strengthen their abilities to design and implement integrated rural development projects.
