Grant is provided to Africare to implement an emergency self- help Food for Work program for some 1,000 families (7,400 people) who have been forced by drought to relocate in the Mares Egady area of Tarka district in Tanout arrondissement of Niger"s Zinder Department.

Abstract
The program, which will help the displaced population to grow irrigated food crops, will include: (1) construction of at least 55 hand dug wells (cement-lined) and basins; (2) distribution of seeds and other agricultural materials, supplies, and TA; and (3) distribution of food for a minimum of 3 months while displaced persons are waiting to harvest their crops. Africare will work with CARE and the Government of Niger to ensure that shelter and health services are available. Food distribution will be financed under a separate grant (see PD-ABA-331).
