AID grant to AFRICARE/Burkina for Yatenga wells rehabilitation

Grant is provided to Africare for a program to rehabilitate 50 wells and provide health and sanitation training in the drought-affected areas of Burkina Faso"s Yatenga Province.

Abstract

Villagers will provide local materials and labor to assist in the well rehabilitation effort. AFRICARE will provide 25 of the wells with new/repaired pumps and will train a villager near each of the 50 well sites to maintain the well and its pump. The health and sanitation education program will be implemented in conjunction with local and regional health authorities and will focus on the benefits of clean water, proper sanitation and basic care of diarrheal diseases, disease transmission, the benefits of vaccination, and maternal/child health.
