AID grant to Cooperative for American Relief Everywhere, Inc. (CARE) for the implementation of the KEF water facilities/rural hygiene project

Activities will include renovation and reconstruction of 40 open wells, including deepening, cleaning, casing, and capping of each well, 5 of which will be equipped with motorized pumps and cisterns. The aim will be to transform them into closed systems, thereby providing potable water to approximately 20,000 Kefians. These sites will be incorporated wtihin the existing public health maintenance components of previous CARE well projects in Kef. Activities also include establishment of an additional health education team and construction, on a self-help basis, of 400 private family latrines. A maintenance team will visit each site ragularly, and a local resident at each site will be trained in simple pump repair.
