Grant no. AID/NE-G-1295 (Tunisia) to Cooperative for American Relief Everywhere, Inc. (CARE) to provide partial support for the implementation of the Siliana water improvement and sanitation project

Objectives are to increase the potable water supplies of the rural poor through decontamination of approximately 60 public water points and to promote improved sanitary practices. The project includes: (1) sanitary screening of water supplies; (2) sanitizing viable water sources; (3) capping streams, covering wells, installing pumps; (4) constructing family latrines; (5) educating rural population in hygiene and sanitation; (5) organizing a permanent water supply maintenance unit to oversee water chlorinization and pump maintenance. The project design calls for a 2-year program, administered by CARE, with assistance from the GOT, the Governate of Siliana, and the Peace Corps.
