OPG to Fe y Alegria to continue and expand its vocational training program, begun under projects 5270181 and 5270234, for the inhabitants of low-income shanty towns (pueblos jovenes) of metropolitan Lima and other cities of Peru.

Abstract
Fe y Alegria courses are open to youths and adults of both sexes and offer skills training in carpentry, typing, sewing, electricity, metalworking, ceramics, agriculture, and home economics/nutrition. Specific activities under this project will be to: (1) equip ten new workshops at Fe y Alegria schools and provide supplementary equipment to existing workshops; (2) provide practical instruction to 4,500 high school aged students and to 500 members of pueblos jovenes communities; (3) conduct courses for Fe y Alegria teachers to help them develop a standard approach toward using curriculum materials and guides provided by Peru"s Ministry of Education; and (4) provide an initial stock of materials for the production, within the vocational training workshops, of goods to be sold to generate income and fund future programs.
