Grant to the Morehouse School of Medicine, a Historically Black College and University, to establish cooperative relations with health institutions and personnel in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
1985

Abstract
Morehouse will create linkages with LDC medical institutions, Ministries of Health (MOH), and traditional healers. To accomplish this, Morehouse will establish an International Health Office, which will develop a Consultant and Faculty Registry. The registry will include members of Morehouse itself, member institutions of the Atlanta University Center, and of the Association of Minority Health Professions Schools, other minority health professions institutions, and PVO"s with international health experience. The Registry, which will include French- and Spanish-speaking professionals, will list personnel by area of expertise, experience in LDC"s, and experience in U.S. ghettos and rural areas transferable to LDC"s. Areas of health expertise will include: family practice, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, education, financing, pharmacology, environmental health, public health/epidemiology, and water- and vector-borne diseases. Areas of expertise in the population field will include family planning, demography, policy, and service delivery. A library of books and journals on international health, totaling at least 150 items by project end, will be established within Morehouse"s Multi-Media Center. These materials will be used to support conferences, workshops, and training seminars. Finally, Morehouse will establish collaborative relationships with four African and Latin American medical institutions/MOH"s regarding health training and the geographical distribution of health care providers. These linkages will be refined and enhanced during the course of the project through workshops, seminars, and various other training activities and and by consultations aimed at enhancing host country medical school curricula.
