AID grant to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for research on substitution of labor for equipment in civil construction

Phases I and II of the study, already completed, consisted of a literature review and field observation of ongoing construction. In Phase III, the object of this project, the Bank will conduct experimental studies and demonstration projects in at least three countries. The studies will be in the following areas: determinants of labor productivity, labor markets for unskilled labor and lower-level supervisory staff, and alternative policy instruments for ensuring the choice of appropriate construction technology in specific contexts.
