Abstract
The program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by DAI Global, LLC. The program's main objective is to increase private and commercial investment in SMEs, expand the capacity of financial institutions to lend to SMEs, and strengthen the enabling environment to create conditions for off-farm SMEs to increase their business performance and profitability. The program is divided into three components. Component 1 focuses on expanding the capacity of financial institutions to lend to SMEs. This is achieved through training and capacity-building programs for financial institutions, as well as the development of new financial products and services tailored to the needs of SMEs. Component 2 aims to increase private and commercial investment in SMEs through the provision of investment capital, business advisory services, and market linkages. Component 3 focuses on strengthening the enabling environment by improving the business climate, enhancing access to markets, and promoting entrepreneurship. The program has made significant progress in its second year of implementation. In Component 1, financial institutions have been trained on how to assess and manage risk, and have developed new financial products and services that cater to the needs of SMEs. The program has also established a business services advisory unit to provide SMEs with technical assistance and business advisory services. In Component 2, the program has provided investment capital to SMEs, and has established market linkages to connect SMEs with buyers and suppliers. The program has also established a business incubator to provide SMEs with access to resources, expertise, and networks. The program has also made significant progress in promoting gender, youth, and persons with disabilities. The program has established a gender unit to promote women's participation in business and entrepreneurship, and has provided training and capacity-building programs for women entrepreneurs. The program has also established a youth unit to promote youth entrepreneurship and employment, and has provided training and capacity-building programs for young entrepreneurs. The program has also established a unit to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities in business and entrepreneurship, and has provided training and capacity-building programs for persons with disabilities. The program has also made significant progress in monitoring, evaluation, and learning. The program has established a monitoring, evaluation, and learning plan to track progress and identify areas for improvement. The program has also established a learning and adaptation framework to promote learning and adaptation throughout the program. The program has also made significant progress in operations and administrative activities. The program has established a procurement unit to manage procurement activities, and has established a financial management unit to manage financial activities. The program has also established a human resources unit to manage human resources activities. The program has also made significant progress in developing key deliverables for USAID. The program has developed a comprehensive report on the program's progress and achievements, and has developed a plan for the program's next phase of implementation.
