Abstract
The project focuses on increasing agricultural productivity, improving watershed stability, strengthening agricultural markets, and building capacity. AVANSE is implemented by DAI, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project's geographic focus is on the Northern Corridor of Haiti, which includes the departments of Nord, Nord-Est, and Nord-Ouest. The project's time frame is from April 3, 2013, to September 30, 2013, with a total duration of 12 months. AVANSE's main purpose is to improve the agricultural sector in Haiti by increasing productivity, improving market access, and enhancing the capacity of farmers and local communities. The project's scope includes supporting the development of agricultural technologies, improving irrigation systems, and strengthening the capacity of farmers and local communities. The project's key findings and methodologies are outlined in the work plan, which includes four intermediate results (IRs): IR1, IR2, IR3, and IR4. IR1 focuses on increasing agricultural productivity, IR2 aims to improve watershed stability, IR3 targets the strengthening of agricultural markets, and IR4 focuses on building capacity. Implementation details for the project include the establishment of demonstration plots, farmer training programs, and the development of irrigation systems. The project also includes cross-cutting activities, such as environmental compliance, monitoring and evaluation, and communication and outreach. The project's budget is allocated across various activities, including IR1, IR2, IR3, and IR4. The budget includes funding for personnel, equipment, and other expenses. The project's financial projections indicate that the total budget for the first six months is approximately $1.5 million. The project's implementation is led by DAI, with the support of local partners and stakeholders. The project's management and start-up activities are outlined in the work plan, which includes the establishment of a project management unit and the development of a performance monitoring plan. The project's monitoring and evaluation framework includes the use of geographic information systems (GIS) and other tools to track progress and identify areas for improvement. The project's communication and outreach activities include the development of a project website and the dissemination of project information through various channels. Overall, the AVANSE project aims to support the agricultural development in Haiti's Northern Corridor by increasing productivity, improving market access, and enhancing the capacity of farmers and local communities. The project's implementation is led by DAI, with the support of local partners and stakeholders.
