Abstract
The project achieves this goal by providing scholarships to vulnerable students, raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and reproductive health, and promoting self-esteem and leadership. The project also trains teachers in French, mathematics, sciences, and gender-sensitive pedagogy. Additionally, the project implements activities to reduce sexual and gender-based violence in schools. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the USAID/AIGLE project focuses on promoting gender equality and reducing gender-based violence. The project uses innovative approaches to education, health, and gender to empower adolescent girls. One of the project's success stories is Mbuya, a 5th-grade student who was forced to take on excessive household chores. After participating in a club of young people, Mbuya discussed her situation with her family and used comic books to raise awareness about children's rights and gender equality. As a result, Mbuya's brothers and half-brothers began to share household responsibilities, and the family's attitude towards gender roles changed. The project's approach to promoting gender equality involves training teachers, raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and reproductive health, and promoting self-esteem and leadership among adolescent girls. The project also works to reduce sexual and gender-based violence in schools by implementing activities that promote a safer school and community environment. By addressing these issues, the project aims to create a more equitable society where girls can thrive and reach their full potential. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the project has made significant progress in promoting gender equality and reducing gender-based violence. The project's success stories, such as Mbuya's, demonstrate the impact of the project's innovative approaches to education, health, and gender. By continuing to support the project, the USAID/AIGLE project aims to create a more just and equitable society where girls can reach their full potential.
