Abstract
The program aimed to counter threats from violent extremist organizations (VEOs) by promoting income-generating activities managed by women. Since 2016, VEOs have disrupted production in various sectors, including agriculture, livestock husbandry, and small-scale market gardening. In response to these challenges, BFRP partnered with a local community development organization to train 50 women in techniques to diversify and make high-quality products. The training enabled the women to expand their reach to new markets and increase their income. Participants reported an average daily income ranging from XOF 5,000 to XOF 10,000, compared to a maximum of XOF 2,000 before the training. This increase in income empowered women to care for their families and reduce the financial burden on their partners and older children. The training also focused on marketing and financial management techniques, as well as customer service skills. Women were able to attract new customers and improve the quality of their processed flour, leading to increased sales. The program's impact extended beyond the beneficiaries, as local consumers now have access to quality products in their neighborhood, reducing the risks associated with traveling on market days. The money saved by consumers on travel costs has contributed to their financial resilience. The program's success is evident in the testimonials from participants. One woman reported that she was able to buy textbooks and pens for her children, contributing to their daily food and needs. The program's impact on the local community is significant, as it has created a more stable and resilient economy. By promoting income-generating activities managed by women, BFRP has helped to counter the influence of VEOs and promote peace and stability in the region. The program's results demonstrate the effectiveness of supporting women's economic empowerment in countering the influence of VEOs. By providing training and resources to women, BFRP has created a more stable and resilient economy, reducing the risks associated with VEOs and promoting peace and stability in the region. The program's success serves as a model for future initiatives aimed at promoting women's economic empowerment and countering the influence of VEOs.
