Abstract
The project aims to improve the livelihoods of rural communities through the development of irrigated rice cultivation. The PCE is implemented by the GROUPE SOTERCO for International Ressources Group (IRG). The project's focus is on characterizing the typology of households and organizations of base that benefit from the interventions in irrigated rice cultivation. The study is based on a survey of 2,500 households in the Matam, Podor, and Dagana regions of Senegal. The survey collected data on household demographics, agricultural practices, and access to credit and other resources. The results of the survey indicate that the majority of households in the study area are small-scale farmers, with an average farm size of 1.5 hectares. The households are primarily engaged in rice cultivation, with some also growing other crops such as maize and sorghum. The survey found that the households have limited access to credit, with only 20% of households having access to formal credit institutions. The study also found that the households have a high level of dependence on rice as a source of income, with 70% of households relying on rice sales as their primary source of income. The survey found that the households have a low level of education, with only 30% of household heads having completed primary education. The results of the survey have implications for the design and implementation of the PCE. The study suggests that the project should focus on improving access to credit and other resources for small-scale farmers, as well as providing training and technical assistance to improve agricultural productivity. The study also recommends that the project should prioritize the development of irrigated rice cultivation, as it is the primary source of income for the majority of households in the study area. The PCE has made significant progress in improving the livelihoods of rural communities in Senegal. The project has increased access to credit and other resources for small-scale farmers, and has provided training and technical assistance to improve agricultural productivity. The project has also helped to improve the quality of life for rural communities, by increasing access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare. The PCE has also contributed to the development of the Senegalese economy, by increasing the production and export of rice. The project has helped to improve the competitiveness of Senegalese rice in the regional market, and has increased the country's revenue from rice exports. Overall, the PCE has made significant contributions to the development of rural communities in Senegal, and has helped to improve the livelihoods of small-scale farmers. The project's focus on improving access to credit and other resources, as well as providing training and technical assistance, has been critical to its success.
