Abstract
The project aims to build the capacity of community caregivers (CCGs) to identify and address their own psychosocial needs, protect their wellbeing, and utilize the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to children. This is achieved by providing accredited training to CCGs, which enables them to provide high-quality care to families and children. The project was developed in partnership by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department of Social Development, Programme for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH), International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and Health and Development Africa. The project's primary goal is to improve the psychosocial wellbeing of CCGs and, subsequently, the quality of care they provide to families and children. The Thogomelo Project's approach to building quality in practice involves providing accredited training to CCGs. This training is designed to equip CCGs with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively to children's needs. The project's training program is based on the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) quality management system (QMS), which ensures that training providers meet the required standards. The project's training program includes a range of interventions, such as farmer training programs, infrastructure development, and market linkage facilitation. These interventions are designed to improve the skills and knowledge of CCGs, enabling them to provide high-quality care to families and children. The project's training program is also designed to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of CCGs, ensuring that they receive the support and guidance they require to provide effective care. The Thogomelo Project's approach to building quality in practice has been successful in improving the psychosocial wellbeing of CCGs and the quality of care they provide to families and children. The project's training program has been accredited by the HWSETA, ensuring that it meets the required standards. The project's approach has also been recognized as a best practice in the field of psychosocial and child protection skills development. The project's success can be attributed to its commitment to building quality in practice. The project's training program is designed to equip CCGs with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively to children's needs.
