Abstract
training to leaders and potential leaders from socially or economically disadvantaged groups (including women) in Peru. The project will fund technical and academic training, as well as experience of how free enterprise operates in a democratic society. The project is a country project of the CLASP II Program (5980661). Project training will focus on persons from the key sectors of agriculture, education, health care, community organizations, commerce, government, and the media. Three kinds of training will be offered. Short-term technical training lasting 6 weeks to 3 months will be offered to 18 groups totaling 240 participants and will be geared toward specific occupational needs. Long-term technical training lasting 9 months will be offered to 44 participants, most of whom will be young and not yet in positions of leadership. Long-term academic training lasting an average of 18 months will be provided to 18 participants; recent university graduates or student leaders will be eligible for this training. All participants will take part in Experience America activities, such as home visits, meetings, and community events, as well as in orientation and follow-up activities.
