Abstract
The project involves the construction of new schools and the renovation of existing ones to meet the growing demand for education in the country. As of January 2019, a total of 144 schools are currently under construction or renovation under the JSEP. The project is divided into several phases, with each phase comprising a specific number of schools. Phase I, II, and III are currently underway, with a total of 27, 36, and 33 schools, respectively, being constructed or renovated under these phases. The supervising firms for these phases are Bitar Consultants, Al Mostaqbal, and Baha Consultant Engineering, respectively. The contractors for these phases are Sadeen Contracting, Al Joud Contracting, and Mohammad Eidi & Sons, among others. The construction process is being managed by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (MPWH), which is responsible for ensuring that the projects are completed on time and within budget. However, the report highlights several challenges that are being faced by the project, including securing electricity to a large number of schools due to bureaucratic hurdles and poor management. Additionally, obstacles associated with soil testing and redesign of structural elements continue to be a challenge to several schools. The project is being implemented in various regions of Jordan, with a focus on expanding access to education in underserved areas. The report notes that the initial handing-over visits have begun in Phases II and III, while the final handing-over visits have started in a few schools. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the education sector in Jordan, providing modern and well-equipped schools to thousands of students.
