Abstract
It reports on six case studies conducted in Mali during October-November 1991: (1) Fatola village (rainfed agriculture, truck farming, pastoralism, and fishing); (2) Yaguinebanda, Yelimane Cercle (pasture land management in a Sahelian agropastoral community); (3) the Forestry Department and Production Project"s co-management of a classified forest; (4) Sanankoro village (watershed management, cotton, and community organization); (5) the Office of Niger, seen through the village of Bagadadji (irrigation management and economic prospects); and (6) Anacanaa (management of surface water in interlinked watersheds). Each of the case studies presents renewable natural resource management problems in the context of a specific community, with its production system(s), local institutions, and relationships with outside actors (including government agencies and NGOs). Each study ends with conclusions and recommendations, both institutional and technical. (Author abstract, modified)
