USAID. MISSION TO JORDAN
Grant is provided to the Government of Jordan (GOJ) to provide training opportunities in the U.S.
1979
Abstract
for GOJ personnel in areas essential to the continued success of Jordan"s programs of economic and social development. Thirty long-term participants and approximately 170 short-term participants will be trained in a variety of subject areas, with an emphasis placed on three priority areas. (1) Skills of key GOJ policymakers or managers in the area of manpower development will be upgraded by: (a) training trainers and developing curriculum/materials, especially in fields where expertise is lacking, i.e., building trades, nutrition education, management training, and accounting; (b) providing administrators and educators with training courses and observational tours in vocational education management, community education design, and educational testing; (c) providing training in vocational guidance and counselling, designed to bring women into the work force; and (d) offering courses in manpower availability assessment, employment requirements, and demographic trends to statistical analysts and manpower planners. Within each of the above areas, short-term, highly specific, practical training will be emphasized. (2) Training programs for personnel who will employ project management skills will consist of both short-term in-country and overseas M.A. training for qualified candidates. Related to specific sectors, these programs will be in the areas of financial analysis; government accounting, and budgeting; procurement and contracting procedures; health planning; social soundness analysis; women in development; and environmental issues assessment. (3) Finally, programs in program maintenance will be aimed toward improving skills necessary to continue a project after its initial planning stages. Candidates for participant training must possess adequate English-language skills and must meet course prerequisites. Special consideration will be given to qualified women and to those candidates who have not previously participated in other participant training programs.
