Abstract
The study aims to understand the challenges and opportunities faced by youth in the municipality, with a focus on participation, migration, employment, and access to resources. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods. A total of 150 youth were interviewed, representing 75% of the municipality's youth population. The interviews were conducted in three rounds, with a focus on understanding the youth's perceptions of participation, migration, employment, and access to resources. The study found that 60% of the youth interviewed reported participating in community activities, with 40% indicating that they had participated in local government initiatives. However, 70% of the youth reported facing barriers to participation, including lack of information, limited access to resources, and social stigma. Regarding migration, 30% of the youth reported having migrated to other countries, with 50% indicating that they had done so in search of better economic opportunities. The study also found that 40% of the youth reported receiving remittances from family members living abroad. In terms of employment, 50% of the youth reported being employed in the informal sector, with 30% indicating that they were employed in the formal sector. However, 60% of the youth reported facing barriers to employment, including lack of education and training, limited access to resources, and social stigma. The study also found that 20% of the youth reported having disabilities, with 50% indicating that they faced barriers to participation and employment due to their disability. The study recommended that the municipality and local organizations prioritize the inclusion of youth with disabilities in decision-making processes and provide them with access to resources and support. Overall, the study highlights the need for the municipality and local organizations to prioritize the inclusion and participation of youth in decision-making processes, provide them with access to resources and support, and address the barriers they face in accessing employment and education opportunities.
