Abstract
The project is led by FONAKISE, a federation of organizations representing the Kichwa nationality. The project focuses on the design of a proposal to strengthen the role of four indigenous nationalities in the protection of their forest cover and biodiversity. The Kichwa nationality in Sucumbíos has a strong cultural and economic relationship with the chacra, a type of family garden. The chacra is an important source of income, social, and cultural significance for the Kichwa people. The project aims to improve the quality of life, reduce poverty, and conserve the forests through sustainable development strategies. The project has been working with FONAKISE for 15 years, developing activities in 52 communities to obtain medicinal plant derivatives. The project has generated income for the communities and has helped to conserve the forests. The project has also registered with the national health authority, ensuring the quality and safety of the products. The project's methodology involves the design of a proposal to strengthen the role of the four indigenous nationalities in the protection of their forest cover and biodiversity. The proposal will be implemented through a participatory approach, involving the communities and organizations in the decision-making process. The project will also establish a fund to support the implementation of the proposal and ensure its sustainability. The project's objectives are to strengthen the structure and capacity of FONAKISE to manage funds sustainably for activities compatible with the Amazonian forest. The project also aims to implement productive actions with a gender focus in the division of labor (chacras and forest use). The project will provide administrative and financial support to FONAKISE through a sustainable fund for production compatible with the Amazonian forest. The project's results and actions include the establishment of an administrative and financial structure with the capacity to manage sustainable funds for activities compatible with the Amazonian forest. The project will also implement a sustainable fund with the capacity for investment and return in productive actions. The project aims to implement chacras and diversify them by FONAKISE members with limited access to monetary resources who live in forest territories and can articulate their production with PROAN Kichwa. The project's duration is 12 months, and it will be implemented in 6 cantons, 20 parroquias, and 64 communities of base and 50 sectors in the province of Sucumbíos. The project will benefit 16,056 people and will be implemented by FONAKISE, with the support of local partners, including MAE, Rainforest Norway, FEPP, and RIOS.
