INTERNATIONAL BOARD FOR PLANT GENETIC RESOURCES (IBPGR)
Increasing attention is being given to the collection and in situ conservation in protected environments of the germplasm of wild relatives of crops, and consequently to the need for ecogeographical surveying to identify wild relatives in the field for conservation.

Abstract
In this report, an International Board for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR) task force makes recommendations pertaining to the principles and methods of ecogeographical surveying and in situ conservation and identifies: (1) specific crop and forage genepools to be given priority for ecogeographical surveying and in situ conservation, respectively, as well as genepools which should be further studied and then considered for priority status; (2) genepools which should be given priority for ex situ conservation; and (3) specific needs relating to data bases on wild species, training, and funding.
