This paper attempts to assess the significance of education (measured by the fraction of the population engaged in this activity) to the growth of per-capita income.

Abstract
We analyze cross-country data (which requires strong assumptions regarding similarity of production and educational technologies among countries). Presumably, errors of measurement and specifications are also associated with the data. In spite of this, a positive and highly significant association is found between growth of per-capita GNP and education. However, it would be premature to draw specific policy recommendations with regard to education from this study; this will require, among other things, a great deal more data on the educational variable for each of the countries.
