Subproject to initiate an Africa-wide improved stove coordination and support program.
1985
Abstract
The Kenya Energy Non-Governmental Organizations Association (KENGO) will work with NGO"s, producer groups, and individuals to: (1) develop and market improved cookstoves; (2) train groups and individuals in stove evaluation; (3) identify support for stove development and marketing; and (4) improve stove information exchange. KENGO will hire a bilingual subproject coordinator and form a team consisting of a stove technician, a dissemination specialist, and a stove technologist. Initially, KENGO will work with groups in 18 countries, which will be divided into countries which have a high potential in the project"s subject area (Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, Botswana, Lesotho - Category A countries) or at least a probable potential (Uganda, Burundi, Zambia, Madagascar, Senegal, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Malawi, Gambia, and the Ivory Coast - Category B countries). Specifically, KENGO will sponsor a 2-day workshop to discuss subproject purposes with interested local and international stove groups, donor groups, and NGO"s. Then, assisted by personnel from the overall project, KENGO staff will begin 1-2 week visits to key west African countries to form the background for regional planning workshops for representatives from Anglophone and Francophone Africa. The workshops will focus on outlining group and country needs and priorities, donor support, and technical and training assistance strategies. KENGO and project staff will provide follow-on in-country TA and training - up to 5 in-country training workshops are planned - as defined through the workshops. A regional workshop on stove evaluations (e.g., testing, monitoring, quality control) is also planned.
