Abstract
Resources for the Future (RFF), a non-profit research institution, will be contracted to implement the project by assisting various developing country research institutions to conduct energy assessment studies. RFF will devote approximately 50 work-months to the studies, while the selected developing country institutions are expected to provide some 300 person-months of effort. A list of possible topics of study includes: policy problems in expanding fossil fuel exploration and development; fuels for electrical generation; energy supply mix and the role of centrally-generated electricity; fuelwood and charcoal supply systems; interfuel substitution in developing countries; new sources of liquid fuels; food, forests, and fuel competition for biomass resources; energy pricing and demand management policies; conservation potential in developing countries; a comparative study of development efficiency and income distribution problems in rural electrification programs and energy implications of alternative development strategies. Amendment (dated 4/9/81) extends the project for 1 year. The contract with RFF to provide analyses of energy development issues will be continued. In addition, country-level energy assessments will be carried out in Tunisia, Liberia, Togo, Malawi, and Morocco. This project will be superceded by a new, related project in FY 82. Update on renewable energy activities: A national energy assessment was also carried out in Sudan. This subproject was known as the Sudan Energy Policy and Plannning Project (SEDAP) and over;lapped with project 6500059 (Sudan Energy Planning and Management) (PD-AAP-875) Update on renewable enrgy activities: The project also included a Board of Science and Technology for International Development (BOSTID) qworkshoip on energy survey methodologies for developing countries. Published workshop procedings include papers on the Phillipines, Jamaica, Indonesia, Dominican Rerpublic, and Sudan, among others (PN-AAH-940) Update on renewable energy asctivities: Also included is an analysis of rural electrification in India.
