Enhancing and Advancing Basic Learning and Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina – ENABLE BiH

The project's primary focus was on enhancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. For the period September 25, 2019, to September 24, 2020, ENABLE BiH implemented various initiatives to achieve its objectives. The project's implementation was divided into two phases. Phase I involved the training of STEM-PPDM Master Trainers/Mentors, who were responsible for replicating STEM-PPDM trainings and introductory STEM training in 12 model schools across four model areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These areas included the Sarajevo Canton, the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, the Brčko District, and the Republika Srpska. The rollout of the STEM program at model schools was also a key component of Phase I. In addition to the training and rollout of the STEM program, Phase I focused on establishing cooperation with three STEM universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These universities included the Faculties of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sarajevo, Mostar, and Banja Luka. The project aimed to equip these universities with STEM-PPDM equipment to support their development as university centers of excellence. Furthermore, ENABLE BiH established cooperation with the business sector to provide pupils and students with internship opportunities and gain practical experience in the job arena. Phase II of the project built on the initiatives implemented in Phase I. The focus shifted to equipping 12 model schools with modern STEM equipment to support teaching and learning in a practical manner. This phase also involved the mentorship of 192 teachers in 12 STEM Model Schools. The project organized STEM fairs to demonstrate STEM achievements from both the education and business sectors and as a forum for linking education and business. The overall goal of ENABLE BiH was to enhance and advance basic learning and education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a particular emphasis on improving STEM education.
