Abstract
The survey was conducted from March to June 2018 by the Institut National de la Statistique (INS) in collaboration with the Ministère du Plan et du Développement Économique and the Ministère de la Santé. The survey received financial support from the Government of Guinea, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Bank through the Primary Health Care Improvement Project (PASSP), the Global Fund, Catholic Relief Services, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The survey collected data from over 10,000 women aged 15-49 and more than 4,000 men aged 15-59. The survey found that 95% of women aged 15-49 in Guinea have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM), with the highest prevalence rates in the regions of Boké (97%), Kindia (98%), and Labé (98%). The survey also found that 39% of girls aged 0-14 have undergone FGM, with the highest prevalence rates in the regions of Boké (48%), Kindia (44%), and Labé (46%). The survey found that 67% of women and 55% of men aged 15-49 believe that it is justified for a man to beat his wife/partner for at least one of the reasons cited. The survey also found that 67% of women and 55% of men believe that it is justified for a man to beat his wife/partner if she burns the food, argues with him, or refuses to have sex with him. The survey found that 40% of women in union take decisions on their own or together with their partner regarding their own health care, while 48% of women take decisions on their own or together with their partner regarding visits to their family or parents. The survey found that 52% of women in union take decisions on their own or together with their partner regarding three or more decisions, including health care, major household purchases, and visits to their family or parents. The survey also found that 37% of women in union take no decisions on their own or together with their partner regarding these three decisions. The survey found that 69% of women and 86% of men aged 15-49 possess a mobile phone, while 33% of women and 43% of men possess a house, and 27% of women and 35% of men possess land.
