Abstract
The first question inquired about the presence of a cough, with options to respond as "Non" (0), "Oui" (1), or "ne sait pas" (99). Respondents who reported having a cough were then asked to determine if the cough had lasted more than two weeks. This question was scored as "non, moins de deux semaines" (0) or "oui, plus de 2 semaines" (1). The next question inquired about the presence of expectoration, or coughing up mucus, with options to respond as "Non" (0), "Oui" (1), or "ne sait pas" (99). The following question asked about the presence of blood in the expectoration, with options to respond as "Non" (0), "Oui" (1), or "ne sait pas" (99). The survey then inquired about a range of symptoms that may be indicative of TB, including chest pain, shortness of breath, night sweats, weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue, and fever. Respondents were asked to indicate if they had experienced any of these symptoms over the past three months, with options to respond as "Non" (0), "Oui" (1), or "ne sait pas" (99). The survey also inquired about the respondent's medical history, including whether they had ever been diagnosed with TB, whether they had ever been treated for TB, and where they had received treatment. Respondents were also asked if they had completed a six-month course of TB treatment. The survey concluded with questions about the respondent's family and social history, including whether anyone in their household or family had been diagnosed with TB and whether they had had recent contact with someone who may have TB. Based on the respondent's answers, the survey recommended further evaluation and medical examination, including analysis of sputum samples, for those who reported coughing for more than two weeks, coughing up blood, or experiencing any of the symptoms listed in question 5. Those who tested positive for TB were referred for preventive therapy IPT evaluation.
