Abstract
The municipality has a total area of 90.48 square kilometers, with 0.21 square kilometers corresponding to the urban area and 90.27 square kilometers to the rural area. The urban area is divided into 4 barrios and 4 colonias, while the rural area is divided into 17 cantones and 120 caseríos. The population of the municipality is 44,730, with 21,559 (48.20%) being men and 23,171 (51.80%) being women. Of this population, 14,988 (33.51%) live in the urban area and 29,742 (66.49%) live in the rural area. The population aged 10 to 29 years is 18,177, representing 40.6% of the total population.
