Abstract
Evaluation covered the period 1979-84 and was based on site visits, document review, and interviews with energy officials, project personnel, beneficiaries, and USAID/T personnel. Most of the project"s 14 components have been successful, and some have current and/or potential benefits that are worth the financial investment in the project. Those few components that failed to meet their goals were valuable as lessons for the future. By far the most impressive consequences of the project have been the results of the efforts in microhydropower, improved cooking stoves, and village woodlots. These three components and the Regional Energy Center component have all had significant and continuing impact on the welfare and economy of rural Thailand, while five other components - the National Energy Information Center, the Energy Master Plan, and the Village Survey, Charcoal Production and Solar/Wind Resource Assessment components - have significant potential impact on both the rural and national economies.
