1978
Abstract
Project continues an existing project. WTI will offer two principal services to LDC"s -- general and specialized training and technical assistance. Twice yearly, WTI will offer 6-week workshops on applied marketing to senior-level public and private sector LDC executives. The program will begin in the participant"s home country, where WTI personnel will help clients select an export product or industry and analyze the nation"s supply capability. The program will continue in New York and will include identifying a target market; research and analysis of the market structure and competitive marketing situations; estimating sales potential and setting sales objectives; adapting products to market requirements; developing market strategies on pricing and costing; evaluating distribution channels; developing promotion techniques; and complying with import regulations and country export promotion and commercial policies. Approximately 20 persons will participate in each session. WTI will also develop a new training program in port operations and administration and will maintain a special international trade library. In regard to technical assistance, WTI will provide LDC government trade centers, export promotion centers, and external trade departments with access to professional marketing and merchandising expertise on a "when needed" basis; and will develop two free zone services/investment promotion projects per year, with emphasis on utilizing American companies. WTI will also increase client request services in such areas as export potential analysis, industrial surveys, factory evaluations, and market visitations. Finally, WTI will implement at least two indepth export development ("trade laboratory") projects per year. In these projects, WTI will assist LDC clients in publishing export, production, and marketing guides; developing in-country training programs and overviews of foreign market happenings for particular products; and in the other areas of WTI expertise already noted.
