Abstract
The project aimed to empower youth to become active citizens and leaders in their communities. The project's main objective was to activate potential leaders, strengthen and mobilize developing leaders, and support leaders in action. To achieve this, the project implemented various activities, including the creation of a diverse and inclusive youth leadership committee, foundational political leadership training, and individualized support services for marginalized youth. One of the key results of the project was the establishment of the Red TransformAcción network, a multi-layered network of youth civic and political leaders that reached out to youth and connected them to civic and political participation opportunities. The network provided a platform for youth to share their experiences, build connections, and develop their leadership skills. The project also focused on strengthening and mobilizing developing leaders through individualized support services, including short-term learning opportunities, certificate courses, and higher education opportunities. The project identified and networked high-potential marginalized youth for appropriate training opportunities, and institutionalized support services to propel them to succeed. In addition, the project supported leaders in action by increasing cross-cultural understanding and cooperation between urban and rural youth, as well as across differences in ethnicity and income. The project created spaces for building connections between youth with different backgrounds and identities, and helped guide project implementation through a diverse youth leadership committee. The project also aimed to increase interaction and communication between youth-led movements and organizations based in Guatemala City and those outside the city. The project collaborated with youth-led movements and organizations to advance priorities around shared thematic interests, and built capacity in advocacy and political participation. The project's results framework included indicators such as increased awareness, interest, and participation of youth in advocacy and political activities, institutionalized mechanisms created to sustain youth engagement and participation in civic and political life, and increased support for developing political leaders through individualized support services. The project's lessons learned highlighted the importance of creating representative, diverse, youth-led meeting spaces, supporting youth leadership, and promoting gender and inclusion. The project's recommendations included continuing to support youth leadership development, promoting cross-cultural understanding and cooperation, and increasing interaction and communication between youth-led movements and organizations. The project's conclusions on areas for further assistance emphasized the need for continued support for youth leadership development, particularly in marginalized communities. The project's annexes included indicators tables, an index of all reports and information products produced, a monitoring, evaluation, and learning report, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning graphics.
